Governor's Proclamation
BY THE GOVERNOR OF
THE STATE OF GEORGIA
A PROCLAMATION
ORDER OF DEMOLAY
WHEREAS: On March 18, 1999, Georgia members of the Order of
DeMolay will celebrate its 80th anniversary; and
WHEREAS: The Order of DeMolay was founded in 1919 as a youth
organization devoted to developing character in young
men and to teaching good citizenship and leadership; and
WHEREAS: Under the direction and supervision of adult role
models, the young men of the Georgia chapter have
participated in activities to build civic awareness, personal
responsibility, leadership and character; and
WHEREAS: The young men of the Georgia DeMolay chapter have
planned and implemented a variety of self-directed
activities fostering an appreciation for the value of community
service in addition to building confidence and to teaching responsibility
and cooperation; and
WHEREAS: The Georgia chapter has chosen to focus on community
cleanup campaigns and programs for the mentally
disabled, it is indeed fitting to honor these fine young men for their
outstanding public service in enriching the lives of their fellow
citizens; now
THEREFORE: I, Roy E. Barnes, Governor of the State of Georgia, do
hereby recognize the ORDER OF DEMOLAY on March 18,
1999, as they celebrate their 80th anniversary, and do
further extend best wishes for continued prosperity and success.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the
Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed.
