Statewide Sports League Debuts with Basketball Tournament
MACON, GA - Four chapters fielded teams for the new sports league
formed under the leadership of Dad Russ Nobles: Clayton, Don R. Roberts,
Mountain Park and Samuel S. Lawrence Chapters. Basketball competition began
in earnest on March 20 at the gymnasium located at the Masonic Children's Home
in Macon, Georgia. Even two of the children from the Masonic home asked if
they could play and were given a place on the teams. Dad Nobles and Dad Jim
Stovall officiated. Don R. Roberts defeated Clayton Chapter in the first
game, Mountain Park defeated Clayton Chapter in the second game and Samuel
S. Lawrence defeated Mountain Park Chapter in the third game. That leaves
the current standings at:
1st Place (tie) - Samuel S. Lawrence (1-0)
1st Place (tie) - Don R. Roberts (1-0)
3rd Place - Mountain Park (1-1)
4th Place - Clayton (0-2)
Dad Nobles was pleased with the participation in the sports league.
"We had unusually good competitive play and fielded one more team
than I had expected. Several individuals from chapters that were not
entering a team showed up to play on one of the four teams. I look
forward to the next round of play."
