State Officers "SOAR!"
ATLANTA, GA - Getting off to a good start can significantly improve the chances of success,
and the 2003/2004 team of State Officers is already in orbit! They spent an
intensive weekend shortly after taking office at Conclave learning about the
duties of a state officer, mastering the strategic plan, going over the
plans for state events, and forging themselves into a unified team. The
acronym for the event was S.O.A.R., which stands for "State Officers
Accepting Responsibility" These State Officers and the State Sweetheart were
ready to do just that.
"Dad Griggers gave us some real tools to use to work together and help the
Chapters achieve their goals," said SMC Chris Eells about the program he and
Dad Griggers, the State Director of Education, had put together. "We learned
about teamwork, conflict resolution and customer service. It was a great
training opportunity."
One highlight of the weekend was for each officer to get in front of the
group and make a presentation while Dad Griggers filmed them on video
camera. Then they played the video back and critiqued their performance.
"That was an eye opener for me," noted Jackie Moody who dramatically
improved his second performance after watching his first. "You don't realize
how other people see you till you go on camera and see yourself."
Dad Griggers commented, "It has been wonderful this weekend watching eight
guys and one Sweetheart come in the door as nine different individuals and
walk out the door as a team!"
The State Officers have set a very ambitious agenda for Georgia DeMolay
which includes making considerable headway in the three year goal to double
the statewide membership. They are also determined to revitalize the
struggling Chapters in the state and start two new DeMolay Clubs.
"Everybody's pumped!" exclaimed Richie Eells upon leaving the S.O.A.R.
weekend. "We are ready to get to work!"
