Reminder: Security work is for adults age 18 and up. However, if you're not 18 yet, we can still use your help. Working at the gates is only part of what happens to make this project a success. Georgia DeMolay is gearing up again for its primary fundraiser - the "NASCAR Project." Once a year, the members and adult volunteers manage seven of the ten campgrounds that surround the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Managing these campgrounds requires us to staff the entrance gates to each area, welcome our camping guests, assist them with their needs, and generally make sure that our camping race fans have a great experience at the speedway. We assist in security matters and make sure that our camp areas remain safe for all campers staying with us.

This is a weeklong project but our activity gets busiest from the Thursday before the race through the race on Monday morning. From Thursday morning on, we are required to staff the entrance gates to each area 24 hours a day. As you can imagine, this requires many man-hours, but we try to limit the number of hours any one volunteer works by having as many people as possible sign up to share the load.

Many individuals have put forth extraordinary effort to the success of this project since 2005. They have helped to sustain the programs that benefit the members of Georgia DeMolay year after year. Some of you receiving this e-mail are the very people that have donated time and effort at our past races. For this, I extend to you my deepest gratitude. You have made a difference.

So, what do we need? - WE NEED YOU!

As we prepare for race week, running August 27 - September 5, 2011, we need you to register and volunteer your time to make this another successful event for DeMolay. Please go to the Worker Sign-Up Form to go directly to the volunteer sign-up form. There you can select days and shifts that you are willing to volunteer and send your registration electronically. Please be as generous as possible with your time.

What if I can't volunteer time for the race? The best way to help Georgia DeMolay is to volunteer your time toward this effort. If that is simply not possible, please consider sending $10 or $20 to help offset the costs associated with the operation of this fundraiser. While people are volunteering their time to this effort, we provide meals, snacks, and beverages. During the days of 24-hour service, this alone is a sizeable project and requires many resources. This and other necessary expenses reduce the profitability of the fundraiser and its benefit to DeMolay. Your contribution will help to ensure that the "NASCAR Project" will provide the benefit intended to our young men.
